Memphis - Rhodes volleyball picked up their first conference win of the season after downing Oglethorpe 3-1 Saturday. Oglethorpe is now 5-11 overall and 0-6 in SAA play. The win ends a five-game losing streak for the Lynx.
Oglethorpe held an 8-7 lead, their final lead of the first set before Rhodes went on 6-1 run later to lead 20-14 before winning the set 25-20. The Stormy Petrels scored the first two points of the second set before Rhodes held as much as a seven-point lead on their way to a 25-19 victory.Â
In the third set, the Oglethorpe led 14-13 but five straight points put Rhodes up 18-14. The Stormy Petrels refused to be swept and went on a 9-2 run to lead 23-20. A big cross-court kill from freshman
Kathryn Chambers and an Oglethorpe attack error pulled the Lynx within one, but the Stormy Petrels forced a fourth set after securing a kill and team block.Â
The fourth set was close with Rhodes leading 15-14. The Lynx then scored 10 points in a row to win the game.
Kelsey Glasper was serving for the Lynx during that time which included two aces, four Lynx kills and a team block to end the game.Â
Emily Korba led Rhodes with 14 kills, 15 assists and a .357 hitting percentage. Chambers finished the game with seven block assists while
Marissa Hall totaled the game-high 23 digs.
Annie Burke led the Lynx with 22 assists and Glasper also recorded a double-double with 12 digs and 10 kills.Â
Rhodes will travel to Sewanee and Centre next weekend and will only return home Oct. 26-27 to host Millsaps and Birmingham-Southern.
