Volleyball Drops SAA Road Games at Centre/Sewanee

Memphis - Rhodes College volleyball dropped both conference games this weekend 3-1 at Sewanee (Saturday) and Centre (Sunday).

Sewanee
The Tigers went up 2-0 before Rhodes avoided the sweep by winning the third set 25-23. During the third frame, the Lynx took an early 5-1 lead before taking a five-point edge (12-7). Centre went on a 9-1 run trying to make a comeback. Their three-point lead dwindled as Rhodes later scored six points in a row to lead 21-18. The Lynx then held a 24-21 advantage until the Colonels put up two points before Rhodes sealed the win on a kill from Kathryn Chambers. Centre and Rhodes traded five-point runs to open the fourth set but a seven-point run from the Colonels later was too much for the Lynx to overcome. Centre would go on to win 25-18.

Annie Entz led the Lynx with 10 kills while Marissa Hall recorded 18 digs and Annie Burke 17 assists.

Centre
First set action went back-and-forth until the set was tied 22-22. The Colonels then went up 1-0 after three straight points to end the set. In the second set, four straight Lynx points erased a Colonel 7-4 advantage. After seven ties, Rhodes won the set on a 10-3 run including each of the last seven points, all while libero Marissa Hall was serving. Rhodes continued scoring with the first three points of the third set, but Centre countered and went up 6-4. Later, the Colonels went up by seven after a 5-1 run (19-12), before limiting the Lynx to 15 points. Centre went up 10-6 but Rhodes tied the game 11-11 before the Colonels went on a 10-2 run on their way to a 25-19 fourth set victory.

During the match, Hall led Rhodes with 14 digs while Emily Korba (nine) and Chambers (eight) led the Lynx in kills. Heather Antrim and Gabrielle White both recorded six block assists while Chambers tallied five.

Rhodes is on the road next weekend at Berry and Oglethorpe.
