Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rhodes Falls Short in Battle with Birmingham-Southern

Birmingham, Ala. – After a couple of lightning delays, Rhodes men's soccer kicked off for a late afternoon game against Birmingham Southern College (BSC). Rhodes and BSC traded blows before BSC ultimately gained control of the game.

The scoring got started early when BSC score the game's first goal in the fifth minute. Rhodes would immediately respond when Travis Tuerff got on the end of a cross from Jack Lippe for his fifth goal of the season. The rest of the half would be up and down action as each team attempted to work the flanks resulting in several crosses and corner kicks.

In the second half both teams made tactical adjustments and much more of the game was played in the middle of the field. BSC would ratchet up the pressure and forced Rhodes goalkeeper Nathan Meglic to make several critical saves, including a pair of one-on-one chances that Meglic stifled. He would finish with eight saves. In the 70th minute BSC found the net again to gain the decisive advantage. Rhodes pressed and pushed men up the field in an attempt to level the game. BSC would capitalize on Rhodes aggressiveness by grabbing a goal on the break in the 88th minute.

Rhodes intends to turn things around during a big weekend on the road when they take on Sewanee October 11th at 7 p.m. and then Center College on October 13th at 2:30 p.m. ET.
