Sewanee, Tenn. – Rhodes traveled to rival Sewanee for a clash in the mountains under the lights during a crisp and drizzly Tennessee night. Rhodes put everything out there but came up just short in the end. The final score ended 2-1 in favor of Sewanee.
In the first half, Sewanee put Rhodes on the backfoot by pressing high up the field and serving balls into the box. The Tigers would continue their fast start in the 14
th minute after playing a ball out to the top of the box from a corner kick that resulted in a long shot that snuck into the near post corner. The remainder of the half was a toe-to-toe fight in the middle of the field. It seemed as if the ball would never touch the ground as players competed to win headers and locked up on crunching tackles.
The Lynx came out of the half on the blitz, completely taking the game to Sewanee. In the 46
th minute, one minute out of halftime,
Ben Tang found himself in isolation with a defender on the right flank. Tang with clever hesitation and cuts beat the Sewanee defender to get to the end-line and put in a cross that sought out
Jack Lippe's head. Lippe slotted the header into crossbar and down across the goal line to level the game 1-1. This was Lippe's second goal of the season.
It seemed inevitable that another goal would be scored as both teams attacked each other's defensive lines. In the 78
th minute that would prove to be true as Sewanee connected on a low cross to score the go-ahead goal and final of the game.
Rhodes continues their weekend on Sunday against rival Centre hoping to get back to winning ways against a tough opponent at 2:30 p.m. ET.
