Conway, Ark. - Rhodes College football suffered their third shutout of the year, falling to Hendrix 33-0 Saturday under the lights.
Rhodes won the toss and deferred the kickoff, resulting in a Hendrix touchdown on their first possession. The Lynx were forced to punt on each of their drives in the first quarter while Hendrix connected on a 48-yard field goal to lead 10-0 at the first break.
Hendrix rushed in for a 20-yard touchdown on their first drive of the second quarter and followed it up with a 20-yard touchdown reception to take a 24-point lead at halftime.
Adam Martinez made a 36-yard return for the Lynx to start the third quarter. Rhodes turned the ball over on downs before
Jordan McCoy tallied an interception on Rhodes' own 12-yard line and ran it back 59 yards to get the Lynx to Hendrix's 29-yard line. Rhodes was forced to try for the field goal, however the Lynx missed the 38-yard attempt to keep them scoreless. The Warriors responded with a 12-play, 68-yard drive resulting in a touchdown to go up by 30 at the end of the third quarter.
Hendrix scored a 27-yard field goal in their first drive of the fourth quarter and later missed a 31-yard attempt.
Rhodes totaled 107 passing yards, 72 rushing yards and 152 return yards. The Lynx defense recorded two sacks for a loss of six yards including one from
Parker Rye (four yards) in the first quarter, and one from
Tony Heyward for a loss of two yards.
Kobe Bins led the defense with 11 total tackles, followed by Heyward with nine. Bine,
Rod Thornton and
Alex McRae each tallied a breakup while the Lynx as a whole totaled five tackles for a loss of 14 yards.
Ethan Chamberlin averaged 8.7 yards per catch after making three receptions.
Adam Martinez made the long catch of the day for the Lynx (16 yards) with
James Moskosky and Chamberlin both making one 13-yard reception each. Martinez averaged 19.8 yards per return on four returns for 79 yards.
Freshman
Fred Jackson was kept busy for the Lynx, totaling 229 yards on six punts. His longest of the night was 44 yards and he averaged 38.2 yards per punt.
On the ground,
Stephan Jean-Francois made the longest rush of the day for Rhodes (12 yards).
Luke Macias averaged seven yards on two carries and
Mitch Batschelett totaled 17 yards on nine carries.
Rhodes will be the only team at home over Fall Break, hosting Birmingham-Southern at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 12.
