Men’s Soccer Brings the Heat on Senior Day

Memphis – It was senior day and the Lynx sent Evan McMann, Jaimin Patel, and Will Birka-White out in style with a 3-0 win over visiting Hendrix College.

Two days of rain left the field soaked but it did not slow down Rhodes. In the first half it was clear that the focus was to keep the ball and wear down the tough Hendrix defense. Rhodes challenged down the flanks, sending in crosses often leading to corners. In the first half alone, Rhodes created 14 corners. However, Hendrix weathered the pressure and managed to go into halftime level at 0-0.

Birka-White made three fantastic saves to keep Hendrix from taking the lead early in the second half before Rhodes continued the onslaught of offense. Swinging the ball from one side of the field to the other, Hendrix's shape was strong but eventually Rhodes was able to punch the ball in off a lovely piece of play. Jereme Gordon attacked down the left side of the field and sent in a ball that was met by Travis Teurff who guided it into goal in the 61st minute. Teurff has six goals on the season. Ten minutes later, Maxwell Hughes played another ball into the box from the wing and found Juan Sandoval-Leon who headed it into goal for his second of the season. And as the final whistle was seconds away Owen Cervino scored a lovely volley after a Rhodes free kick was deflected his way. That goal was Cervino's first collegiate goal.

Rhodes will travel to Mount Berry, Ga. to take on Berry College in the Southern Athletic Association quarterfinals. The two teams tied for fourth in the regular season standings, but Rhodes' loss to Birmingham-Southern allowed Berry to host. The Lynx and Vikings will meet on Saturday, November 2.
