Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rhodes Ends Season in Overtime to Berry

Rome, Ga. – Despite holding a two-goal advantage in the second half, Rhodes men's soccer fell to Berry 3-2 in overtime of the 2019 Southern Athletic Association quarterfinals.

The first half ended 0-0 after strong showings from both defenses. Senior keeper Will Birka-White came up with four clutch saves in the half to keep Berry out of goal. Rhodes put Berry on their heels with a few testing through-balls, probing the defensive line.

The second half opened up quickly for the Lynx. Ben Tang found himself in space on the right wing and swung a ball into the box where freshman midfielder Nic DiMauro met the ball with his head, slotting it into the goal just 52 seconds into the half. Minutes later, midfielder Sam Khomtchenko put on a show – gliding past several Berry defenders and slipping in forward Jack Lippe who tucked the ball into the right bottom corner of the net.

Berry would regroup and score in the 49th minute and in the 85th minute to force overtime where the Vikings scored the decisive goal in the 92nd minute.

The loss ends the season for the Lynx who went 4-11-2 overall as they tied for fourth in the regular season conference standings.

Rhodes men's soccer would like to thank seniors Evan McMann, Jaimin Patel, and Will Birka-White for their dedication to the team and for their leadership on and off the field. Additionally, the team wishes to thank all of the parents and family members for their unwavering and unmatched support all year. The players want the parents to know that having you with us or watching online wherever we go does not go unnoticed and it means the world to us. Roll Lynx!
