Lexington, Ky. - Rhodes College field hockey concluded their regular season with a 3-0 shutout at conference foe Transylvania University Sunday.
Rhodes, who limited Transy to just one shot on the day, scored all three goals in a span of three minutes and eight seconds in the first quarter.
Hannah Luckes scored the game-winner on a
Maria Varat assist in the ninth minute. She scored again just over a minute later (
Sabrina Simpson assist) and 54 seconds after that
Sam Hutchinson assisted senior
Lydia Slyter's goal.Â
Both of Simpson's career assists have come against the Pioneers. Today, Slyter scored her first goal of the season and Simpson her first assist of the season. Today's game-winning assist was Varat's first career assist while Hutchinson also recorded her first collegiate assist. Luckes now has seven goals on the season and is second on the team with 17 points.
On the day, the Lynx recorded 13 shots and earned eight penalty corners. Half of those corners occurred in the first quarter.
The Lynx are now 8-5 on the year and after a bye week, will return to Lexington for the 2019 SAA Tournament, hosted by the Pioneers Nov. 8-10. Rhodes has secured the second seed with their 3-1 conference record.
