Memphis – Rhodes College soccer hosted the Berry College Vikings in a pivotal SAA matchup late in the season. Rhodes created many chances in a back and forth game but failed to put one in the back of the net resulting in a 0-0 tie in double overtime.
The energy from Rhodes was palpable from start to finish, as the Lynx put on an offensive clinic in the first half and put up ten shots to test the Berry keeper. Berry could not seem to figure out how to pick apart the Rhodes defensive shape and could only manage two shots in the half. Nathan Meglic got the start in goal for Rhodes until Will Birka-White came into the game after Meglic collided with a Viking. Birka-White finished the game with five saves.
The second half was end to end action. Both Rhodes and Berry attacked down the outside and forced the each other to clear crosses or concede corners. Each side had five corners in the half, but neither team could capitalize. The goalless draw would continue into overtime. While neither team managed to score, Rhodes proved more dangerous, creating four shots in the overtime periods.
In their first overtime game since September 8, Rhodes outshot Berry 18-8 and edged the Vikings 9-7 in corners.
Rhodes looks forward to their senior day celebrations and game against SAA opponent Hendrix College on Saturday, Oct. 26th at 2 p.m.
