Memphis – Rhodes men's soccer hosted Oglethorpe University in a tough matchup. Oglethorpe holds the top spot in the Southern Athletic Association going into today's matchup. Rhodes played hard and held Oglethorpe for the majority of the game, but ultimately fell 3-0.
The first half featured a lot of stifled offense as Rhodes set a low line and absorbed the pressure of the attacking Stormy Petrels. Rhodes had a few dashes at goal on the counter attack and managed to force Oglethorpe into making saves. Nathan Meglic managed three saves in the half to keep Oglethorpe out of the goal.
Oglethorpe leaned in at the start of the second half and challenged the structure of the Rhodes defense. While Rhodes was able to maintain a 'bend but don't break' mentality in the first half, they conceded the first Oglethorpe goal in the 55th minute. From that point Oglethorpe would put in a goal in the 64th and 69th minutes. Both points came off of free kicks.
Rhodes plans ahead for Sunday's matchup against Berry College at 2:30 p.m. at home.
