Third Quarter Dooms Lynx Against Berry

Rome, Ga. - Rhodes College women's basketball went into halftime tied 14-all with Berry College but the Vikings' 19-11 third quarter advantage propelled the hosts to victory. The 57-47 loss takes Rhodes to fifth in the conference standings with five games left in the regular season. 

Rhodes went up 6-4 on the road until Berry scored six unanswered points to lead 10-6 after the first 10 minutes. Both teams scored less than 10 points, as the Lynx held the Vikings to just four points in the second frame, out-scoring them 8-4 for a tied game at halftime. 

Rhodes' offense struggled in the third quarter as the Lynx connected on only two field goals to go along with their seven free throws. Meanwhile, Berry took an eight-point advantage after scoring 19 points in the frame. The Vikings led 33-27 and scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to lead by 11. The Lynx cut that lead to five with 1:16 to play, but Berry held on for their ninth victory of the season (9-11). The Vikings are now tied for third with a 5-4 SAA record as the Lynx fall to 4-5 in conference and 11-9 overall. 

During the game, senior Allie Young recorded her third double-double of the season with a season-high 15 rebounds to go along with her 12 points. Freshman Kiera Downey also led the Lynx with 12 points while sophomore Lindsey Whiteside netted 11 points. 

Rhodes will return to Memphis for their final two home games this season. The Lynx will play Centre on Sunday night at 6 p.m. followed by senior night festivities at halftime of the men's 8 p.m. contest. Rhodes will then host Sewanee on Sunday, February 3 at 1 p.m.
