Maryville, Tenn. - After picking up wins in their first two games of the Maryville College Invitational Friday, Rhodes College volleyball defeated Salem College 3-1 and swept Covenant to improve to 6-2 on the year.
Salem
In the first game of the day, Rhodes took the first, third and fourth sets from the Spirits.
Sarah Nieland recorded 37 assists while three Lynx picked up double digit kills including
Kelsey Glasper (14),
Heather Antrim (13) and
Britt Butler (12).
Mary Frances Daniel led Rhodes with 22 digs and not far behind was Butler with 18 digs. Glasper also tallied a double-double with 14 kills.
Covenant
In their final game of the weekend, the Lynx went 3-0 with Butler recording the only double-double of that match. She recorded another 12-kill match and added 11 digs. Daniel also tallied another 22 digs while
Marissa Hall led the Lynx with 21 assists. Glasper served up three aces while the Lynx recorded a total of six team blocks.
Butler led the day with 24 kills, averaging 3.43 kills per game while
Emily Korba's .424 was the team-high with 16 kills on 33 attempts. Defensively, Antrim and
Morgan Hill were part of seven blocks while Daniel finished the day with 44 digs. Nieland recorded 52 assists on the day while Glasper totaled five aces.
On the weekend
Antrim led Rhodes with 36 kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Glasper and Butler finished with 30-plus kills as well, recording 35 and 32 respectively. Glasper tallied nine aces with Hall adding another eight. Hill led the Lynx defensively at the net, taking part in 20 blocks with Antrim teaming up in 15 blocks. Daniel totaled 80 digs over the four matches as Glasper tallied 50.
Rhodes will have five more games on the road before playing at home again, with their next game at Hendrix on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
