Memphis - It took over 76 minutes for the Lynx to pick up a win in their only game of the week. Rhodes field hockey defeated Wittenberg 2-1 in overtime during a rainy Saturday afternoon. The win keeps the Lynx undefeated who are now 3-0 on the year.
Wittenberg and Rhodes both tallied their regulation goals after corner attempts. The Tigers sent the ball into the circle towards Rhodes goalkeeper
Nina Migneco, but that shot was deflected, which found Blaine Donnelly to score the first goal of the game in the 11th minute.
Senior
Jillian Christensen's shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner was blocked by the Tigers, but junior defender
Daryl Perry found possession of the ball and sent it to the backboards to tie the game in the 19th minute.
In overtime, the Lynx earned a penalty corner and after sending multiple shots towards the cage, Wittenberg deflected the ball out of bounds. Perry passed to freshman
Jenn Kirby who sent the ball into the circle, finding junior
Hailey Mules who grounded the ball into the backboards for the game-winning goal.
A lightning delay plus overtime kept the teams on the field for two hours and 48 minutes. The Lynx earned 14 penalty corners compared to the Tigers' four while Rhodes' offense also tallied a 23-6 shot advantage. In goal, Migneco recorded four saves.
Rhodes will finish their home stand with a noon game against Hendrix on September 15th.
