Memphis - It was an offensive kind of day for Rhodes women's soccer who hosted Birmingham-Southern College. The Lynx had fans on the edge of their seats, recording 34 shots, 22 of which were on target, on their way to a 2-1 victory over the Panthers.
Rhodes thought they scored on a header with under 15 minutes left in the first half, but the Lynx were caught offsides. Senior
Brenna Katz got Lynx fans excited again when she brought down a ball right outside the goal and tapped it in in the 32nd minute. Katz was assisted by
Taylor Ryan's serve from right in front of BSC's bench.
Multiple times throughout the game Rhodes powered the ball to the goal, only to bounce up, hit the crossbar and bounce back down into the box. BSC evened the game in the 58th minute on a free kick from near the sideline. Taylor Andrews' kick bounced high inside the box and found Sydney Barrow's head near the far left post to tie the game. Rhodes also then capitalized on a free kick. After senior
Aly Hoyt was tripped up near the Rhodes sideline, allowing junior
Katelyn Curtis to send the ball into the box from 40 yards out. Curtis' pass curved in from the right and found senior
Rachel Giampapa leaning in for the game-winning header through the hands of BSC's Blakely Jones.
Jones finished the game with 20 saves. Rhodes led the corner kick advantage (7-3) while only allowing the Panthers to attain three shots.
The Lynx conclude regular season home games next weekend when they host Centre College on Friday, followed by Sewanee for senior day on Sunday, October 7th at 2:30 p.m.
