Sewanee, Tenn. - Rhodes College field hockey has proven they can win on the road with Saturday's 4-0 victory in a neutral-site matchup against Bridgewater College.
Freshman
Sabrina Simpson tallied the game-winner in the 16
th minute on an assist from fellow freshman
Hannah Luckes. It's the first collegiate goal for Simpson and Luckes' second assist in as many games.
Junior defender
Daryl Perry eliminated a Bridgewater threat on a corner by intercepting a pass as the Eagles tried to re-enter the ball into the circle. She then drove the ball up-field to give the Lynx an offensive opportunity.
In the 30
th minute, the Lynx made the Bridgewater defense work hard, putting up several shots in a row before freshmen
Jenn Kirby roped a rebound and served up senior
Lizzie Wood with a tip-in to give Rhodes a 2-0 lead.
Right before halftime,
Nina Migneco swatted away a Bridgewater shot to keep the Eagles from scoring. During the first half the Lynx recorded a 13-5 shot advantage.
Rhodes recorded their first goal of the second half after Luckes set up senior
Hailey Mules at the very end of the 50
th minute. A penalty by the Lynx on a corner gave Bridgewater a penalty stroke. That free shot on goal was averted and shot wide to the right of the cage by the Eagles.
Mules finished scoring for the Lynx with her second goal of the game in the 59
th minute. She was assisted by
Meghan Harmon. During the game, Rhodes recorded 26 shots to the Eagles' 10. Migneco tallied a career-high seven saves to earn the shutout. Both teams tallied six penalty corners.
Rhodes, who remains undefeated with a 5-0 record, will take on Converse College at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. That game will again be located on Sewanee's campus and will have live video and stats
available.
