Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball comes back to defeat Sewanee in opening SAA Tournament game

Memphis - Rhodes baseball found themselves down 2-0 after Sewanee scored two runs before the Lynx tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lynx crossed four in the seventh to lead 6-2 and begin the 2018 SAA Tournament with a victory to improve to 25-13 on the year.

Sewanee doubled in the first run of the game before tallying their second run (unearned) after a bases-loaded single in the sixth. Zac Lange earned two RBI after a shallow single down the right field line to put Rhodes back in the game.

After two singles to open the seventh, Rhodes sent Nick Bosma from first to the mound to replace starter Jack Mercer while designated hitter Ryan Palermo took over at first base. Bosma and the Lynx earned three consecutive strikeouts to end the inning.

Bosma then started the bottom of the seventh with a double to deep center. Right fielder Levi Greenberg singled on a bunt while Zach Liebenson also singled on a bunt to earn the first RBI of the inning. Brady John's sac bunt scored Greenberg for the game-winning run before leadoff hitter Paul Giacomazzi roped in Liebenson on a single up the middle. Giacomazzi then stole second and took third on a throwing error. He crossed Rhodes' final run of the game after Jacob Telli singled to center.

Bosma picked up his second win of the season on the mound and at the plate went three-of-four. Giacomazzi finished three-of-four as well with an RBI and two runs scored.

Drew Mancuso took the loss but struck out nine Lynx in his complete-game appearance for Sewanee.

Rhodes will play at 11 a.m. Friday against the winner of game two. Sewanee will play at 2:30 p.m. in the elimination game. Stay up to date with the Memphis tournament website here.
