Baseball snaps three-game skid with 9-8 victory over Widener

Auburndale, Fla. - Carter King picked up his second win of the season and Nick Bosma his fifth save on the year as Rhodes College baseball defeated Widener University 9-8 Tuesday evening. The victory ends a three-game losing streak for the Lynx who are now 10-7 on the year.

Rhodes scored on a wild pitch to open the game in the first inning before Widener tallied two runs to take a brief lead in the second. The Lynx tied the game as Bosma led off the bottom half of the second with a solo home run to left field. Brady John doubled for an RBI as Jon Michael Lauck scored and then Brady crossed the plate after Zach Liebenson laid down a sacrifice bunt.

The Pride tallied a sac fly in the third but four runs by Rhodes gave them an 8-3 lead. Widener then scored four runs across the next three innings to pull within one before John and Jacob Telli combined for the game-winning run. After John walked, stole second and went to third on a Paul Giacomazzi single, he scored on Telli's single to left field.

Widener tallied another run in the eighth but the Lynx held out for the win after recording 11 hits and Rhodes' pitching staff tallied six strikeouts.

John finished the game going two-of-four, with two runs scored, a walk, stolen base and one RBI.

The Lynx don't return for varsity action until Thursday at 5 p.m. ET when they take on Albion College in Auburndale.
