Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse takes down tough Denison team 12-9

Nashville, Tenn. - It was a close battle until the very end as Rhodes women's lacrosse defeated Denison University on the campus of Vanderbilt University Tuesday on a rainy and eventually snowy evening. Both teams mostly traded goals throughout the game until Denison took an 8-7 lead. After that, Rhodes closed out the win by scoring five of the last six goals of the game to improve to 7-3 on the year.

Ashley Doyle and Kendall Cunningham led the Lynx attack, both tallying five goals each. Doyle's came on seven shots as she also led her team with seven draw controls and four caused turnovers to go along with her four ground balls. Cunningham notched the game-winning goal with 8:47 to play in the game which gave Rhodes a 10-8 advantage. She netted a hat trick in the first half and tallied three of Rhodes' final five goals of the game.

Also scoring for the Lynx was Annika Hedlund who recorded the first goal of the game as Maggie Rippeto gave the Lynx the lead for good (9-8) with 9:22 left to play. Erin Gleeson was second for the Lynx with five draw controls.

Lauren Lazure, Rachel Windmueller and Daly Colarossi led the defense with nine, seven and six ground balls respectively. Lazure was killer in the cage tallying 11 saves.

Rhodes will head back to Memphis to conclude their day trip and will look ahead to two games this weekend when they play at Birmingham-Southern on Saturday, followed by a neutral-site game against Methodist on Piedmont's campus in Georgia on Sunday.
