Memphis - After Dickinson College led 2-1, Rhodes College Women's Lacrosse was either tied with or led the Red Devils until the second half. With Rhodes on top 11-8, Dickinson posted nine straight goals on their way to out-scoring the Lynx 12-6 in the second half. The 19-14 loss is the first regular season loss for Rhodes at home in almost two years. That happened with a 17-7 loss against Clarkson on March 16, 2016.
After trailing 2-1, the Lynx scored three unanswered goals and held a two-point lead three times in the first half as they held an 8-7 halftime advantage. Dickinson scored within the first 40 seconds of the second half to spark their offense. The Lynx trailed 19-12 with 2:36 to go, before
Kendall Cunningham and
Erin Gleeson served up two goals within the final 28 seconds of the game.
Annika Hedlund, who scored off a
Maggie Rippeto pass to score Rhodes' first goal of the game, fed Cunningham while Gleeson drove straight to a Red Devil filled 8m just 11 seconds later.
Dickinson's defense on Rhodes' settled attack was a fixture as the Lynx had only three free position attempts in each half. The Red Devils however scored seven of their goals on nine free position attempts. Aiding the Pennsylvania team was their 11-6 second-half draw control advantage as well as two man-up goals on three Rhodes yellow cards.
Hedlund and Cunningham both led the Lynx with five points each while Rippeto tallied four in the game. Cunningham recorded four goals while the other two each notched a hat trick and
Ashley Doyle guided the Lynx with a game-high 11 draw controls.
Rhodes will not compete again until March 20th when they go to Nashville, Tenn. for a neutral-site matchup against Denison on the campus of Vanderbilt University.
