Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Weatherford & Nyawata team up late to give Rhodes a 101-98 victory over Oglethorpe

Atlanta, Ga. - It was yet another thrilling game for Rhodes men's basketball, this time favoring the Lynx who snapped a four-game losing streak after defeating Oglethorpe 101-98 on the road Sunday afternoon.

Rhodes trailed 96-95 when Mitch Weatherford drove to the basketball, securing both the bucket and the foul with 45 seconds to play. After the Petrels answered with a shot of their own to tie the game 98-98, senior Anesu Nyawata drained a three-pointer as the shot clock was winding down to give Rhodes a 101-98 lead with 6.7 seconds left in the game. Oglethorpe tried and failed to convert a last second three-point attempt to ensure the Lynx victory.

Nyawata finished the game with a career-high six treys and totaled 25 points. Andrew Evans was second for Rhodes with 16 points while Weatherford tallied 14 points missing just one of five field goals and going three-of-four from long range. Owen Galvin led his team with 10 rebounds.

The SAA-leading scorer and Stormy Petrel Will Perry led the game with 31 points which included 13 free throws.

The Lynx made 18 three-pointers and shot 42.9% from long range in the win.

Rhodes will conclude regular season play with three games at home. The Lynx will first host Millsaps on Friday at 8 p.m., followed by Millsaps on Sunday at 3 p.m. and Hendrix for senior day on Feb. 17th at 5pm.
