Atlanta, Ga. - Rhodes women's basketball took down Sewanee in the Southern Athletic Association Quarterfinal round Friday night. The Lynx kicked off the tournament with a 76-61 victory, their second over the Tigers this season. Rhodes is now 18-8 on the year.
The Lynx began with a 21-11 first-quarter lead, but Sewanee's 16-12 second-quarter advantage cut that lead to six headed into the second half. Sewanee struggled from the perimeter in the third quarter while the Lynx shot over 50% in the field. Rhodes led 56-42 headed into the final frame, which was evenly matched in scoring desperate low accuracy by the Tigers once again.
In the game, Sewanee's Bella Taylor recorded 28 points on 11 buckets and five free throws.
Freshman
Lindsey Whiteside scored 18 points, recorded eight rebounds and tallied seven assists in her first collegiate conference tournament. Junior
Allie Young recorded the only double-double of the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds while senior
Jessie Ustick netted 15 points and three treys.
Alyssa Owens scored 13 points and had five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
The Lynx will return to the court at Oglethorpe University to take on Hendrix at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.
