Memphis - Rhodes College women's basketball met up with Hendrix College for the third time this season. The Lynx won the previous two battles, but during the conference semifinal matchup, the Warriors came away with a 63-56 overtime victory. Hendrix will go back to the SAA Championship game and face Oglethorpe Sunday.
Hendrix took an early lead, which they maintained for the majority of the first half. Rhodes' largest large was just two points all game. Both teams struggled shooting, but the Lynx missed all three-pointers in regulation and finished the game going one-of-25 on the evening.Â
Rhodes went on a 10-2 run in the first five and a half minutes of the third quarter after being down by 11 points in the second. In the fourth quarter, the Lynx drew three fouls in the first 90 seconds. Down five, with 3:26 to go,
Lindsey Whiteside threw the ball inside to freshman forward
Maya Longacre who rolled in the basketball. Rhodes took an immediate timeout. Hendrix would score four straight points before Whiteside connected on a layup with 2:29 left. Hendrix led 46-43 and then took a timeout. A missed Hendrix basket, followed by a Whiteside jumper put the Lynx within one point.
Hendrix scored a free throw and with possession, called a timeout with 54 seconds to play and 23 seconds on the shot clock. The Lynx sat back and another
Allie Young block ended in a jump ball which favored Rhodes. Coach Sumski called timeout with 34 seconds to play. Whiteside and Longacre quickly conversed on the sidelines before Longacre in-bounded the ball to her teammate. Whiteside drove in for the layup to tied the game 47-47 with 26 seconds to go.
Hendrix dribbled across half court and called a timeout with 13.9 seconds to go and both teams sitting with five fouls. Hendrix went for a hurried jumper as time was winding down and missed at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.
The Lynx gained possession to begin overtime but continued to struggle shooting as Hendrix held the Lynx to just six free throws and their only three-pointer of the game. In the game, Rhodes shot 26.2% overall and were out-rebounded 55-47.Â
Allie Young played the biggest defensive game of her career, tallying career highs of 16 rebounds eight blocks and six steals. She also recorded 13 points while Whiteside led the Lynx with 21 points.Â

Jessie Ustick, who helped Coach Sumski turn a team around in her inaugural head coaching stint from 5-21 their junior year to 18-9 their senior year. That's a 12.5 game improvement and third highest across Division III this year. The NCAA Division III record is now 17 games, currently held by East Texas Baptist, set this season. The previous mark was 16.5 games.
