Memphis - It was a roller coaster game for Rhodes men's basketball. The Lynx went on a 26-9 run to finish the first half with a 67-49 lead.
Hendrix showed they weren't finished by scoring seven unanswered points to begin the second half and scored another seven straight in a minute and a half to cut Rhodes' lead to 10 points. Rhodes led 95-83 before the Warriors began creeping closer once again going on a 16-4 run to tie the game at 99 points each.
With 2:31 to play, Hendrix led by five points, but after a Rhodes timeout,
Daniel Darst pulled up a trey and an immediate steal which allowed Rhodes to take the lead on an
Anesu Nyawata layup and extra bucket on the foul. Hendrix returned the favor and called a timeout and connected on a three-pointer to take a two-point advantage.
Preston Giroux tied the game and once again, Darst came through for Rhodes with the game-winning layup on an assist from Nyawata.
Darst finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds while
Owen Galvin led the Lynx with 21 points.
Vaughn Samson led the boards with seven rebounds.
Prior to the game, fans were introduced to the entire team which ended with the seniors. The Lynx will lose
Price Dalton,
Ian Harrison and Nyawata to graduation.
Rhodes has earned the fourth seed in the SAA Tournament after tying Birmingham-Southern in the standings. Both teams were swept by seeds one and two, but BSC was also swept by the third seed, Oglethorpe, whereas the Lynx split regular season games against the Stormy Petrels. Rhodes and BSC will square off in teh first round, which begins on Friday and is hosted by Centre College.
