Memphis - Rhodes succumbed to Christian Brothers University (CBU) 6-5 Tuesday afternoon after an eventful first inning for the Bucs. The Lynx are now 4-4 on the year.
CBU rattled off four runs in the first inning, which included a three-run home run to take the early lead. A home run in the second and a double in the fifth gave CBU a 6-1 lead. In the sixth, Rhodes had the bases loaded with two outs when
Levi Greenberg pulled through with a three-run double to left center.
In the seventh the Lynx made multiple substitutions and had a chance to at least tie the game in the ninth.
Paul Giacomazzi singled to get on base and was pinch ran for as Markell Henderson made his collegiate debut. Henderson advanced to third when
Nick Bosma singled through the right side with one out.
John Medich hit into a fielder's choice as CBU's third baseman chose to nab the lead runner by stepping on the bag.
Zac Lange then pulled out an RBI-single to right field to cut CBU's lead to one run. With runners at second and third for Rhodes, CBU escaped with the victory on a strikeout.
Giacomazzi, the designated hitter, went two-of-two with three walks to lead the Lynx at the plate.
Will Heurtin also doubled in the game and
Zac Lange stole a base.
Cameron Tinker struck out two batters in the fourth inning, his only time on the mound while
Carter King did the same over two innings.
Rhodes is set to host Greenville University in a three-game series beginning Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
