Rhodes College football senior
DJ Coker and junior
D'On Coofer have both garnered All-South Region accolades as announced by D3football.com Tuesday morning. This is the 14th season D3football.com has named all-region teams. This year there were 1,029 total nominations split into four regions. The duo, who both earned first team all-conference honors, were part of a group of 10 total Southern Athletic Association student-athletes to garner all-region accolades.
Coker (Buford, Ga.), a 2017 American Football Coaches Association second team All-American and D3football.com All-South third team honoree, is the first Lynx to earn all-region honors from the organization twice in his career. The senior left tackle earned first team All-SAA accolades for the second year in a row. Coker anchored an offensive line whose quarterback finished the season ranked 18th in the nation in total offense, averaging 296.6 yards per game. The Lynx averaged 392.2 yards per game of total offense, 176.3 rushing yards per game and threw for 2,159 yards.
This is Coofer's first career All-Region nod. The Goodlettsville, Tenn. native is the first defensive tackle in Rhodes history to earn all-region honors. Coofer was one of two SAA players to earn second team all-region accolades this year. He totaled nine sacks and is tied for fourth in the South region, averaging 1.00 sacks/game (19th nationally). During the entire season, he totaled 53 tackles, 15.5 of which sent his opponents back 63 yards (25th nationally). Coofer also earned D3football.com Team of the Week honors after recording nine total tackles including three and a half for a loss of 13 yards in Rhodes' season opener against Illinois College. Against a ranked Berry team, Coofer totaled a career-high 10 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss of 5 yards. In his final game of the season, the junior recorded two sacks for a loss of 12 yards, helping the Lynx close out the year with a victory.
All players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for the
D3football.com All-America Team, to be announced on Friday, Dec. 14, at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
