Lynx Snap Four-Game Skid After 73-47 Victory Over Agnes Scott

Memphis - Rhodes College women's basketball defeated Agnes Scott 73-47 Sunday afternoon, ending a four-game losing streak for the Lynx. Rhodes is now 7-4 on the season while the Scotties are still looking for their first win after 12 games. 

Rhodes jumped out with nine unanswered points to start the game before taking a 15-3 lead. The visitors quickly returned the scoring favor by netting nine straight points themselves which included five free throws. A timeout from Coach Sumski pushed the Lynx to an eight-point advantage by the end of the first period (22-14). Splitting the points on the scoreboard evenly, Allie Young and Lindsay Whiteside both tallied 11 points, as the duo combined to go 10-of-11 in the field, both netting their only free throw attempt. 

Rhodes gained their largest lead of the first half (13 points) with 4:26 to play after Maya Longacre laid in a bucket inside the paint. The Lynx led 35-26 at halftime. In the third quarter, Young recorded seven more points as Rhodes out-scored Agnes Scott 19-14 to lead 54-40. During the final frame, the Lynx scored 19 points while they held the Scotties to seven points who made just two of 18 shot attempts. 

During the game, the Lynx averaged 45.2% accuracy in the field and 87.5% accuracy from the free throw line. Agnes Scott shot 26.7% overall and 62.5% from the free throw line. Kaylin Smith led the game with 21 points, netting three treys. 

Young led Rhodes with 20 points (7-of-12) while Whiteside finished the game with 13 points. Junior Alyssa Owens led the boards with nine rebounds while she added seven points and six assists to her totals. Freshman Alli Mayeux contributed eight rebounds as well. 

Rhodes will open conference play at home on Wednesday, January 2 when they host Hendrix College at 2 p.m.
