Memphis - On Sunday December 2, Rhodes women's basketball took on the No. 19-ranked Austin College 'Roos in a battle of three pointers resulting in the first loss (84-75) of the season for the Lynx. Rhodes is now 6-1 on the year while Austin College improves to 5-1. The 'Roos totaled 10 treys on 26 attempts while Rhodes went 14-of-31 from behind the arc.
The game started with sophomore
Lindsey Whiteside racking up three- three pointers within the first four minutes of the game. She led the Lynx in the first quarter with 11 points, followed by senior
Allie Young, totaling eight points. For the 'Roos, senior Bryce Frank led with 13 points. After the first quarter, the Lynx lead 25-24.
During the second quarter, the teams went back and forth. Freshman

Alyssa Owens scored 12 of Rhodes' 17 points, each netting two treys. The 'Roos edged the Lynx in the second quarter by three, led by senior Ann Savage with eight points, holding a two-point halftime edge (44-42).
The third quarter began with defensive stands by both teams, neither allowing more than three points in the first four minutes. The 'Roos then took control for the next four minutes, scoring nine points, while the Lynx were charged with five fouls. After outscoring the Lynx 15-10, Austin College led 59-52 headed into the final frame.
Young came out of the game after drawing her fourth foul with 7:18 to play. Trailing 66-55, Whiteside scored back-to-back treys pull the Lynx within five points with 5:40 left in the game. However, Austin College wouldn't let up, as sophomore Kacie West continued to drain three's as well. Owens scored a three pointer with 29 seconds left to again pull the Lynx within five points, the closest they'd come to the 'Roos.
The Lynx shot 49.1% overall and 45.2% behind the arc. Whiteside led the team with 24 points and six assists after sinking six-of-10 three-point attempts. Also netting baskets from long range were Owens (three) and
Alli Mayeux (four), both on eight attempts. Mayeux finished with 14 points, her second game in a row, while Owens tallied 13 and Young 10 points.
West scored 28 points after going six-of-11 for Austin College. Leading the game was senior pre-season All-American Bryce Frank with 31 points and 13 rebounds. The 'Roos made all but two free throws on 20 attempts and shot 47.5% in the field and 38.5% behind the arc.
Rhodes will travel to Belhaven on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game before returning home to host Augustana College on Sunday, December 16 at 7 p.m. The Lynx are then off until the final weekend of December when they host Emory and Agnes Scott.
