Memphis - Rhodes College women's basketball has now suffered their third straight loss after Sunday night's 73-66 downing by Augustana College. Rhodes is now 6-3 on the year while the Vikings improve to 7-5. Both teams are finished competing until Dec. 29th.
The game got off to a slow start as 14 fouls were called in the first period. Augie led 16-14 as the Lynx made just three of 12 field goal attempts, but sank all eight free throws. The Vikings held a marginal 30-27 halftime lead, shooting with 45.8% accuracy. Both teams struggled from long range as the teams combined to make two three-point field goals on 15 attempts in the first half.
During the third period, Augie scored three more points than Rhodes to take a 49-43 lead. Rhodes was led by senior
Allie Young who scored 10 points and pulled in four rebounds. During the final quarter Rhodes pulled within four points after an
Alyssa Owens three-pointer, but the Vikings answered with a trey of their own. Augie recorded a 10-point lead after a free throw when the Lynx were forced to foul as time was running out.
Young finished the game with 24 points, going 8-of-12 in the game and grabbing six rebounds. She scored 18 of those points in the second half.
Alli Mayeux totaled 16 points after she sank four of nine three-pointers. She brought down the game-high nine boards, eight of which were gained in the first half.
Rhodes' next contest will also be at Mallory when the Lynx host Emory on Dec. 29th at 2 p.m., followed by Agnes Scott on Dec. 30th at 2 p.m.
