Lynx now 2-2 in SAA after loss to Trinity

Memphis - Rhodes College football suffered a 24-7 loss to Trinity University to fall to 4-2 on the season. The Southern Athletic Association loss puts the Lynx at .500 in conference play. 

Trinity went 73 yards on nine plays to score on their opening drive. Rhodes was forced to punt on their first drive, which Trinity converted to another touchdown after just one play, a 66-yard reception. Trailing 14-0, Rhodes ate up the clock, going 69 yards on 12 plays in about six minutes as the first quarter was winding down. Rhodes' 26-yard field goal attempt was blocked by the Tigers, who ended their next possession with a 28-yard field goal, their only points of the second quarter. 

Trailing 17-0, senior quarterback PJ Settles connected with sophomore Adam Martinez on three straight plays for 65 reception yards including a 37 yard catch to march the Lynx down the field. On fourth and goal, Rhodes went for it as Settles found freshman Andrew Herring in the corner of the end zone to score Rhodes' only touchdown. 

The Lynx held the Tigers to just seven points in the second half including a scoreless fourth quarter. Despite the loss, Rhodes totaled 374 offensive yards, just 26 yards shy of the Tigers. The Lynx held only about two minutes less of possession time in the game. 

Herring finished the game with 76 reception yards on four catches including a 46-yard reception in the fourth quarter on fourth and 15. Dontae Gray made five catches for 51 yards and also ran for 73 net yards, averaging 10.4 yards per rush. He added 54 kick return yards for a total of 178 all-purpose yards on the day. Settles finished the game with 264 passing yards and 15 net rushing yards.

Rhodes' defense was led by Taylor Waddilove with seven solo tackles and nine total. Trent Holt recorded a sack for a loss of 10 yards and totaled three tackles for a loss of 16 yards. Jordan McCoy also wrapped up the Tigers for a sack. He recorded two tackles for a loss of four yards. D'On Coofer totaled six tackles in the game including two which set Trinity back two yards. 

Rhodes has a bye week before returning to Crain Field for Homecoming on October 20th when the Lynx host Centre at 2 p.m.
