Memphis - A scoreless 51 minutes were soon derailed when senior
Christine Zachry booted in the lone goal against Oglethorpe to advance Rhodes women's soccer to the Southern Athletic Association semifinals next week. The win moves the Lynx to 9-4-2 on the year.
Despite holding a 16-1 shot advantage to open first half play of the SAA quarterfinals, the Lynx were held scoreless throughout the first half. Starting at outside back in the second half, Zachry received the ball from fellow senior
Molly Litten, and drove the ball up the field five yards. She scored her first career game-winner 10 yards outside the box in line with the right post, curving the ball into the upper left corner of the goal.
The Lynx held on for the win, holding off the Stormy Petrels who continued to pressure the ball during the final seven minutes of the game.
Overall, Rhodes made 26 shots compared to Oglethorpe's three and also held a 5-0 corner kick advantage.
Meghan Kiker made two saves in goal for the Lynx. Oglethorpe's Lindsay Bolas finished her final game of the season with 10 saves.
Rhodes will now take on No. 3-ranked Berry College in the semifinals of the SAA Tournament Nov. 2nd on Centre College's campus in Danville, Ky. Earlier this year the two teams finished in a 1-1 draw.
