Danville, Ky. - With the second game of the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Women's Soccer Tournament getting started late, and a scoreless game after 110 minutes, Rhodes women's soccer freshman
Olivia House sent the Lynx to the tournament championship game on Sunday after helping the Lynx secure a 5-4 penalty kick advantage.
A back and forth game between the No. 2-seeded Lynx and No. 3-seeded Berry Vikings, Rhodes held an 11-7 edge in shots. Both teams recorded seven shots during regulation, with Rhodes limiting Berry to just one shot in overtime. Berry's Alyssa Stevens recorded eight saves and Rhodes'
Meghan Kiker five saves before the teams were forced into penalty kicks.
Both teams netted the ball in the first of nine rounds of penalty kicks. After Berry hit the right post, defender
Carly Cone scored for Rhodes. In the third round, Berry's shot went high before
Liz Vega connected on the third straight goal for the Lynx. The Vikings answered with two goals while Rhodes' fourth shot was saved by Stevens and their fifth shot went high. In sudden-victory, both goalkeepers saved the sixth shots before each team netted a goal in the seventh round. Berry's eighth shot went wide left of the goal, allowing
Jenny Neil to step up for Rhodes. Somehow Stevens saved the senior's shot near the post, sending penalty kicks to yet another round. Kiker answered with a big save up and over the crossbar, allowing House to score the fifth PK for Rhodes in the ninth round.
Berry held a 6-2 corner kick advantage in a game which only saw seven total fouls. It was a chilly and late night for the teams with temperatures hovering in the lower 40s. Penalty kicks finally ended around 11:15 p.m.
