Memphis - Rhodes College volleyball brought home a victory over Centre College Sunday afternoon, giving three Lynx seniors a win in their final game inside Mallory Gymnasium. Rhodes is now 13-11 overall and concludes regular season conference play with a 5-9 SAA record.
Rhodes honored seniors
Morgan Hill,
Arati Joshi and
Camila Zimmerman before their 3-1 win. The Lynx were down in the first set before earning six straight points to take a 19-14 lead. Rhodes would hold the lead the remainder of the set before jumping out to an 8-0 advantage to begin the second set with freshman
Marissa Hall behind the service line. That early lead helped the Lynx to a 14-point advantage (19-5) before ultimately taking the set 25-12. During that set, Rhodes powered a .480 hitting percentage, their highest of the game with
Emily Korba recording five kills on seven attacks.
Centre led 20-15 in the third set before Rhodes rebounded with five straight points on back-to-back blocks and three kills to tie the game. Rhodes led 23-21, however a Colonel timeout rallied the visitors to four straight points to avoid the sweep. That rally was soon void when Hall began the fourth set behind the service hall. The setter served up 11 straight points for Rhodes who limited Centre to only six points in the final frame.
In the game, Hall recorded six aces including four in the second set, to go along with her 28 assists and nine digs. Sophomore
Kelsey Glasper led the Lynx with 19 digs while fellow sophomore
Mary Frances Daniel tallied 16 digs and Zimmerman 14 to round out double digits on defense. Freshman
Drew Kalman tallied a game-high 13 kills and .440 hitting percentage while Hill's .533 hitting percentage led the game. Korba finished with 12 kills and Zimmerman 11 to record the only double-double.
As a team, Rhodes hit .258 and tallied 12 aces, 68 digs and four team blocks.
The Lynx are on the road Saturday with two non-conference neutral-site games in Conway, Ark. Rhodes will take on Louisiana College at 2 p.m., followed by East Texas Baptist University at 6 p.m. on the campus of Hendrix College.
