Fredericksburg, Va. - Rhodes College field hockey fell to the University of Mary Washington on a brisk Monday afternoon. The Eagles, who are receiving votes in the national top-25 poll of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, are now 8-4 as the Lynx move to 8-3 on the season.
After Mary Washington scored first in the 20th minute, the Lynx offense kept the Eagle defense on their toes. Rhodes earned multiple penalty corners and almost scored, however the Eagles recorded two defensive saves before halftime.
In the second half, Mary Washington scored twice to take a 3-0 lead before defender
Meghan Harmon scored on a penalty stroke for Rhodes to void a shutout.
Mary Washington finished with three defensive saves and eight goalie saves while
Nina Migneco also tallied eight saves for the Lynx. The sophomore made seven of those saves in the second half.
The Eagles barely outshot the Lynx (19-15) with both teams recording 11 shots on goal. Rhodes held an 11-9 penalty corner advantage, with eight of those coming in the second half.
Rhodes will play their final game at home this Saturday, when they host Concordia University Wisconsin at 11 a.m. The Lynx will honor seniors
Jillian Christensen and
Lizzie Wood prior to the game.
