Men's soccer edged by Oglethorpe in tough battle of top SAA teams

Atlanta, Ga. - Rhodes College men's soccer fell victim to Oglethorpe Sunday afternoon 2-0 in a tough battle of the top two teams in the Southern Athletic Association. Oglethorpe is now 6-0 in conference and has now won their fourth straight regular season SAA Championship. Rhodes, who is now 4-2, currently sits second in the SAA standings, however Berry, Centre and Birmingham-Southern all have three wins, totaling four teams battling for the right to host quarterfinal SAA games on October 27th.

Oglethorpe's first goal came after a cross into the box was headed out by the Lynx defense. The Stormy Petrels gained possession of the ball at the top of the box and quickly fired it to the top left corner for the game-winning goal in the 11th minute. A scoreless 75 minutes were followed with another Oglethorpe goal as the 87th minute began. The Stormy Petrels tallied a blocked shot inside the box. The rebound continued towards the front of the goal which the Stormy Petrels landed into the back of the goal, despite Rhodes fans wanting an offsides call.
