Rome, Ga. - Rhodes College men's soccer over took Berry College Friday night 2-0 under the lights. The win is the third straight for the Lynx who improve to 8-3 on the season. Rhodes' 4-1 conference record is the second-best among Southern Athletic Association opponents.
Ian Schiller scored once in each half for the Lynx, the first occurring in the 38th minute. Freshman
Travis Tuerff side-stepped the ball to senior
Davis Neitzschman who received the ball facing the Lynx defense. The captain then turned and ended up sliding on the midfield line as he sent the ball to the right side of the field where Schiller ran the ball down and lofted the game-winner from the right side of the box. In the second half, the Lynx scored in the 81st minute after
Luis Sanchez's shot was saved. The ball went rebounded back to Sanchez who one-touched it to Schiller in the middle of the box. Schiller one-touched the ball into the left corner for the insurance goal, his fifth goal of the season.
The Lynx recorded nine shots in the game and only received one corner kick opportunity. Berry edged Rhodes 11-9 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks.
Defensively, senior
Patrick Wilkerson kept Rhodes in the game, saving five Viking shots on the night.
On Sunday, Rhodes takes on Oglethorpe who is 5-0 in conference play and has won seven consecutive games. Start time is schedule for 2:30 p.m. ET.
