Memphis - A slow start was followed by a Rhodes women's basketball 14-7 advantage before Centre College took the lead and held on for a 25-23 advantage. By the end of the third period, Rhodes still trailed by two points, but the Lynx pulled out another 31-point final frame, just as they did on Friday against Sewanee.
Outscoring Centre 31-16 in the fourth quarter gave them an 83-62 victory. The Lynx are now 12-5 overall and 5-2 in SAA play.
Senior
Jessie Ustick led Rhodes with 20 points which included three treys. Seven of freshman
Lindsey Whiteside's career-high eight assists came in the half. She also tallied 13 points and three steals. Junior
Allie Young recorded 18 points and nine defensive rebounds while
Alyssa Owens rounded out the top four with 17 points. Ironically, one person from each class tallied double digits for the Lynx.
For Center, Paige Kellam netted 14 points. She also had nine assists. Abigail Stewart led the game with 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Next weekend the Lynx will travel to the same teams they played this past weekend, first at Sewanee on Friday, followed by Centre on Sunday. The next home game for Rhodes will be Feb. 9 against Millsaps.
