Memphis - Rhodes men's basketball fell behind early against the Centre College Colonels and trailed 50-43 at halftime. Rhodes led by one point with 1:17 to go but Centre drained two free throws, then blocked the Lynx on a shot and followed up with a good three pointer with 30 seconds to play. Rhodes netted one free throw with 17 seconds left but then officials called goaltender on Rhodes sophomore
Kendrick Ashby to further Centre's lead with 7.2 seconds left. Trailing 99-94,
Anesu Nyawata put in a layup but a foul with one second left allowed Centre to score two more points.
The Lynx are now 9-9 overall and 3-4 in conference. Centre advances to 10-7 overall and 5-2 in the SAA.
Four Lynx netted 11 points each in
Daniel Darst, Nyawata, William McIntyre and
Preston Giroux. All of McIntyre's points came in the first half as he went three-of-three from the arc and two-of-two from the free throw line. Ashby, scored all three field goal attempts and both free throws as well in the second half for eight points.
Rhodes will be on the road for two weekend, returning to Mallory Gymnasium to host Millsaps on Feb. 9 at 8 p.m.
