Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Three Consecutive Goals secures Third Straight Win for Women's Soccer

Memphis - Rhodes College women's soccer found themselves down 1-0 against Huntingdon College on a hot, muggy Memphis afternoon Wednesday. That deficit was short-lived as the Lynx tied the game just over a minute later. The contest under the hot sun would remain tied until the Lynx scored two more goals to hand Huntingdon just their second loss of the season. Rhodes, who has now won three games in a row, heads into conference play this weekend with a 4-3-1 overall record. Huntingdon falls to 6-2 on the year.

After Meredith Harrison scored for Huntingdon, the Lynx answered with a goal after a corner kick a little over a minute later. Aly Hoyt sent the ball into the box and after a header deflected the ball right to Molly Litten as the junior raised back and launched the ball into the goal. The game remained tied for 63 minutes until the Lynx took the lead for good.

Top-scorer Sydnie Schindler one-stepped her defender and curved the ball into the right side of the net from 20 yards out to give the Lynx the 2-1 advantage. Rachel Giampapa recorded her first assist of the season on the play as she slipped the ball down the field to Schindler. Still high from gaining the lead, Rhodes continued to pressure the Hawks. Senior Merrill Stovroff came up with the ball after a goal kick and found Hoyt slipping up the side of the field. Stovroff recorded her first assist of the year when Hoyt booted the ball on almost the same curvature and placement as Schindler.

Rhodes held Huntingdon to just two shots. Despite pressure from the Hawk offense, the Rhodes defense was able to eliminate most threats before the Hawks could get off a shot. Huntingdon's keeper, Kyle Kersh, made six saves in net as the Lynx rattled off 19 shots and held a 6-3 corner kick advantage.

During the game, the Lynx wore gold shoe laces to raise awareness and support for pediatric cancer. Go4theGoal is a national non-profit dedicated to helping kids with cancer and their families across the country through their Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer initiative.

The 3-1 victory gives the Lynx momentum as they head into Southern Athletic Association. Rhodes opens conference play at Millsaps on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
