Memphis - Rhodes College volleyball kept fans in suspense Sunday afternoon. After losing the first set against Centre, the Lynx won the next two sets to go up 2-1. Centre took advantage of a struggling Lynx squad in the fourth set, and held a 7-3 advantage in set five before Rhodes came back to win the set and match. The Lynx went 2-0 in SAA play this weekend and are tied for second with a 2-1 conference record with Birmingham Southern and Hendrix.
Sunday's game was the second SAA game in a row that Centre fell in five sets, losing to Hendrix the day before. During the game in Mallory Gymnasium there were 30 tied scores and 17 lead changes. Rhodes dominated in blocks during sets one (three) and five (four). Overall the team tallied nine total blocks to Centre's six while the Lynx also edged the Colonels in service aces, recording an 11-6 advantage.
After falling 22-25 in set one, the Lynx rebounded and won a close second set. After trailing 24-20, Rhodes came back to win the set.
August Bishop was back to serve with the game on the line. The Lynx secured six straight points on three kills and two service aces while the set-point came from a Centre ball-handling error.
Still on fire from the end of set two, Rhodes took a 7-2 lead but Centre regrouped on a timeout and was able to pull within one point (15-14) before Lynx head coach
Kait Harris wanted a chat with her team. Rhodes was able to close out the win with a kill from
Morgan Hill out of the right side.
The Lynx struggled to find their rhythm in the fourth set, earning just seven kills as Centre tied the game on a 25-15 victory set. After
Caroline Perlis put up an ace for Rhodes to lead 3-2 in the fifth set, Centre scored five straight points to lead 3-7 before Rhodes ended their drought with a kill. After Rhodes' eighth service error of the match, Centre held a 6-9 advantage. The Lynx posted back-to-back blocks to tie the game. After Centre earned two points, Rhodes' defense came through as the team rallied for a point, avoiding a block and getting the ball back over the net after a putback. Centre answered with a big kill from Hailey Foote who recorded 17 kills in the game. The Lynx posted five straight points to win the conference matchup as Bishop found herself in pressure once again behind the service line. The junior out of Dexter, Mich. recorded two aces during her final serves to help Rhodes earn the victory.

Emily Korba hit .304 for Rhodes as she tallied 11 kills over five sets.
Katherine Bolyard was effective as well, recording a strong 12 kills in just four sets. She also tallied 14 digs while
Sophia Quesada led Rhodes with 15 digs. Setter
Hannah McCarty's 31 assitss was a high for the Lynx while Bishop finished with five aces and Perlis four aces. At the net, Perlis totaled four blocks on two solos and two assists while fellow middle hitter
Lulu Schulz recorded four block assists.
Rhodes is on the road this weekend, traveling to Oglethorpe for a 12 p.m. EST game on Saturday, followed by a 2 p.m. EST game on Sunday at Berry.
