St. Louis, Mo. - Rhodes College women's soccer won both games in St. Louis over the weekend. The Lynx defeated DePauw Univeristy 2-0 in a neutral-site matchup on Saturday, and then came together for a 2-1 win against host Fontbonne University on Sunday.
Senior
Anna Maldonado made six saves against Fontbonne, including one in the 79th minute to hold off the Griffins and earn her team's third victory of the season (3-3-1).
Sydnie Schindler opened the game with her third goal of the season. The Lynx 1-0 lead came 31 minutes after the game started on assists from
Hope Elliott and
Aly Hoyt. Hoyt then teamed up with
Katelyn Curtis to assist
Rachel Giampapa in her first goal of the season to give Rhodes a 2-0 lead just four minutes after halftime.
Fontbonne freshman Kiersten Weaver scored in the 76th minute on a cross into the box to avoid the shutout. The Griffins continued with the offensive pressure, shooting four more times before the game ended.
DePauw
Against DePauw, Curtis tallied two assists while
Merrill Stovroff recorded the first goal and Schindler the security goal.
Carly Cone also assisted Curtis on Stovroff's game-winner. During the game, Maldonado made three saves in the first half.
Meghan Kiker made her first appearance of the season during the second half, saving three Tiger shots and securing the team shutout. The teams were relatively even in shots, with Rhodes holding a one-shot advantage (11-10).
Rhodes returns to the pitch Wednesday when they host Huntingdon at 4 p.m.
