Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lynx finish preseason with 3-1 victory over Illinois College

Jacksonville, Ill. - The men's soccer program rebounded from their tie against Webster University with a 3-1 victory at Illinois College Sunday afternoon. The game was the first career win for new head coach Matt Lamb. Rhodes, who is now 3-1-2 on the year, enters Southern Athletic Association play this weekend when they host Millsaps at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. The Lynx turn around and host an non-conference matchup against Fisk University on Sunday at 2 p.m. as well.

It was an exciting first half as the Blue Boys struck first, netting their only goal of the game 11 seconds into the sixth minute of play. The goal occurred after Rhodes' defense committed a turnover in their final third as it went past Boe Santos in his first start of the year.

Rhodes retaliated when Austin Ly tied the game in the 10th minute. Ly shot once and came up with his own rebound for the goal. Will Lawler then netted the game-winning goal on a header from William Mitchell's free kick.

Rhodes led by just one point for over 60 minutes until Illinois College scored an own goal upon trying to clear out a ball brought into the box on a cross from Mitchell.

Santos saved two shots as he earned his first collegiate victory. Rhodes outshot the Blue Boys 19-6.
