Rhodes swept by Hendrix in home opener

Memphis - In their home and conference opener, the Rhodes College volleyball team fell to Hendrix College Wednesday night 19-25, 12-25 and 20-25. The loss is the fourth in a row for the Lynx who began the year 5-0.

Head coach Kait Harris and staff played 18 Lynx in the game. Freshman Mary Frances Daniel accumulated 11 digs to lead the back row players while fellow freshman Sarah Nieland recorded 12 assists. At the net, Morgan Hill snagged a solo block in the middle along with three block assists. Despite the loss, Rhodes out-blocked Hendrix 7-3.

Trying to avoid the sweep, Rhodes pulled within two points of Hendrix (13-15) after Daniel served up an ace. Hendrix scored the next four out of five points to lead 19-14 before Rhodes pulled within two points once more. Camilla Zimmerman's back row attack was followed up with a block by Hill and Kelsey Glasper. Later in the game after a Rhodes timeout, the Lynx eared their final point of the game before Hendrix put the game away on five straight points.

For the Warriors, Lauren Dwyer tallied 16 kills on the night as she hit .368 while Mddie Tovar's 12 kills on 20 attempts put her at .500.

In the game, Rhodes hit .112 as Hendrix more than doubled their efficiency with a .295 hitting percentage.

The Lynx are back at home this weekend taking on SAA opponents when they host Sewanee at noon on Saturday and Centre at noon on Sunday.
