Tyler, Texas - Rhodes College women's volleyball opened the University of Texas at Tyler's Invitation this past weekend with a very hard-fought five-set victory over Hardin-Simmons. The 3-2 win is the fifth in a row for the Lynx to start the year.
Rhodes was down 0-2 before they came back to win the game 14-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20, 17-15.
Elasha Williams and
Emily Korba produced the top hitting marks as the senior recorded 10 kills and a .229 hitting percentage while the sophomore tallied eight kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Williams also led the team with 24 digs while
Tierin Burrow added 21 digs and freshman
Sarah Nieland compiled 21 assists.
After Hardin-Simmons, Rhodes fell to the University of Texas-Dallas and the University of Mary Hardin Bayler 3-1 before succumbing to the hosts 3-0 in their first sweep of the season. Rhodes is now 5-3 on the yar.
Rhodes, who is finished with preseason tournaments, will begin conference play this week. Each is a single game and inside Mallory Gymnasium on Rhodes' campus. Rhodes' home opener is against Hendrix on Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by Sewanee and Centre on Saturday and Sunday at noon.
