Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer's first win is a shutout

Memphis, Tenn. - It may have taken four games, two tough opponents, and four goals in the last two games for the injury-prone Rhodes College women's soccer team to earn their first victory of 2017, but they did it. All four goals this past weekend were scored by different Lynx as the team is now 1-2-1 on the year.

Piedmont
The Lynx hosted Maryville (TN), Millsaps and Piedmont in a round-robin tournament this weekend. Carly Cone scored the first goal of the season to give Rhodes a 1-0 lead over Piedmont. It's also the sophomore defender's first collegiate goal. Katelyn Curtis sent a corner into the center of the box where Cone came up with the ball and shot after Piedmont's goalkeeper barely changed the ball's direction her way. Cone scored the goal in the 11th minute. The Lynx held the lead through the first half until Piedmont scored in the 58th minute, only for Rhodes to take a 2-1 lead 10 minutes later as freshman Sara Scherer also recorded her first collegiate goal. Piedmont tied the game when a soft, long ball went up the middle untouched as Savannah Castles went one-on-one with Lynx goalkeeper Anna Maldonado to keep Rhodes searching for their first win which would come the very next day.

Maryville
It was a long, scoreless game until the 60th minute arrived when junior Sydnie Schindler connected with the netting for the game-winning goal. In the 76th minute, Curtis drove the ball in when junior Jenny Neil scored an insurance run.

The Lynx will go down the road to Christian Brothers University Wednesday, Sept. 13 before travelling to St. Louis on the weekend for two games (Fontbonne/DePauw).
