Baseball Can't Muster Enough Offense in Finale to No. 5 BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Rhodes College baseball team struggled on offense all day yesterday and their woes continued on Sunday, only putting two across and falling to No. 5 BSC in the series finale, 6-2.

The Lynx jumped ahead in the third inning thanks to a RBI single to right from sophomore Jacob Telli, but BSC responded with two runs in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead.

Rhodes evened the game in the second inning on a RBI single from freshman Ryan Palemo, but again, the Panthers had a two run response in the bottom half for a 4-2 lead.

BSC increased that lead to 6-2 in the inning and held off the Lynx in the ninth to finish off the sweep and earn the home win.

Freshman Alex Garrett earned the start, pitching five complete and allowing two runs on eight hits. Junior Nick Ferngren took the loss in relief while junior Will Vance was nearly perfect in 1.2 innings of relief. Senior Jackson Lourie saw action in the eighth.

Senior Bill Munson finished 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles while seniors Bennett Notestine and Ryan Olive also finished with a pair of hits. Telli, Palermo, and freshman Paul Giacomazzi all finished with a hit on the afternoon.

Rhodes falls to 14-15 overall and 6-6 in SAA play. They will remain on the road next weekend as they take on rivals Sewanee in a three game series. The Lynx open the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 PM.
