MEMPHIS - A rally in the 6th, 8th, and 9th innings by Christian Brothers erased a 4-0 Rhodes College baseball lead and gave the Lynx a tough loss to their neighbors by the score of 6-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Stauffer Field.
The Lynx offense was rolling in the first two innings, scoring four to take the early lead. Sophomore
Jacob Telli ripped a two RBI double to deep center for the early lead while senior
Bill Munson made it a 4-0 game with a two RBI single in the second.
Rhodes pitched by committee throughout the game as freshman
Carter King got the start, pitching a solid two innings while the combination of senior
Jackson Lourie, freshman
Nathan Mirochnick, and junior
Nick Ferngren held the Bucs scoreless through five complete.
CBU got two back in the sixth, but freshman
Tom Coggins held them at bay in the seventh to keep the two run lead. However, CBU responded with a run in the eighth to cut it to one and three runs in the ninth to take a 6-4 lead.
Munson finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored while Telli was 2-for-4 with a two RBI, a double, and a triple. Sophomore
Nick Bosma added a double while junior
Levi Greenberg was 1-for-1 with a single. Freshman
Paul Giacomazzi and junior
Zach Liebenson each had a hit.
King and Ferngren each had two strikeouts in their outings while Lourie, Mirochnick, and Coggins all had perfect innings.
Rhodes falls to 17-16 overall and will readjust focus to conference play as they head to Conway, Ark. for a 3-game series against Hendrix. They open things up on Friday with a 6 PM first pitch.
