SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Rhodes College baseball team had another big outing at the plate as they completed the three-game sweep of Sewanee with a 13-6 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Sewanee jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning, but an error in the field by the Tigers evened the game at two as freshman
Paul Giacomazzi put the ball in play in the second.
The Lynx exploded for six runs in the fifth as senior
Ryan Olive gave Rhodes their first lead of the game with a RBI single while freshman
Ryan Palermo drove in two with the bases loaded to make it 5-2.
The next three batters reached on pitching miscues as senior
Zac Lange was hit by a pitch to score one while Giacomazzi and senior
Bennett Notestine each drew walks with the bases loaded to bring one home and push the lead to 8-2.
Sewanee didn't go down quietly, inching closer with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to move the game to 8-5, but Rhodes scored one in the seventh on a pass ball while sophomore
Nick Bosma added his second homer of the weekend to make it 10-5 in the eighth.
The Tigers added one more, but two RBIs from Olive and another RBI single from Bosma put the game out of reach for the 13-6 victory.
Olive finished 2-for-6 with three RBI while Bosma was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Palermo drove in two, scored twice, and walked twice while Notestine, senior
Bill Munson, and sophomore
Jacob Telli all scored twice.
Bosma also earned the start on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out two in the outing. Freshman
John Medich pitched 1.2 innings before the trio of
Nick Ferngren,
Jackson Lourie, and
Ben South slowed the Tigers down for good.
Rhodes moves to 17-15 overall and 9-6 in the SAA. They return home on Wednesday as they prepare to take on Christian Brothers for the second time this year, this time welcoming them to Stauffer Field. First pitch is at 3 PM.
