BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Rhodes College baseball team got a terrific pitching effort from senior
Blake Glauben in game one against No. 5 Birmingham-Southern, but dropped both games to the Panthers, 1-0 and 10-0 (7), in their SAA series on Saturday afternoon.
In the first game, Glauben had a no hitter through seven innings and kept the Panther bats in check throughout the game. However, BSC began to muster some hits while keeping the Rhodes offensive in check as the game was scoreless going into the ninth.
BSC got two hits in the bottom of the ninth including the game winning RBI single to spoil Glauben's terrific outing and escape with a 1-0 win.
Glauben pitched 8.1 innings, striking out 10 batters and only allowing four hits. Offensively, five different Lynx had a hit in the contest in senior
Ryan Olive, sophomores
Nick Bosma and
Jacob Telli, and freshmen
Paul Giacomazzi and
Ryan Palermo, but had no runs to show for.
In the second game, BSC took the momentum from their thrilling win and turned it to a 3-0 lead in the first. They added two in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth as they pulled away for a 10-0 (7) win.
It was struggled all around for the Lynx, but they did solid bullpen outings from junior
Will Vance and sophomore
Ben South. South fanned a pair of Panthers in his inning of work.
Rhodes moves to 14-14 overall and 6-5 in the SAA. They will look to salvage a game in the series tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Panthers at 12 PM.
