Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lax Offense Overpowers BSC to Remain Unbeaten

MEMPHIS - For the No. 1 and No. 2 player in the nation in points scored, it was business as usual as the Rhodes College women's lacrosse team welcomed in Birmingham-Southern in a key SAA matchup.

As they have all year, they made their impact, burying the Panthers to move to 8-0 and 3-0 in the SAA. The No. 1 player in the nation in points and assists, junior Maggie Rippeto: fours goals, seven assists.

The No. 1 player in the nation in goals and No. 2 in points, junior Kendall Cunningham: nine goals, one assist.

Final score: Rhodes rolls again, racing past the Panthers, a team they shared a regular season title with a year ago, for a 24-13 victory on Saturday afternoon at Mason Field.

It's the fifth time this season the Lynx offense has scored 20 or more goals as they currently rank sixth in the nation in scoring offense and fifth in scoring margin.

Like we said, business as usual.

Rhodes out shot BSC 38-22 and forced 16 Panther turnovers. The Lynx picked up 34 ground balls and added 19 draw controls on the day.

The Lynx overwhelmed the Panthers in the first 15 minutes, racing out to a 7-0 lead behind three goals from Cunningham, two goals from senior Lindsay Gess, and goals by Rippeto and freshman Kaeley Bennett.

BSC got one, Rhodes got two. BSC got another goal, Rhodes got two more. BSC netted one more, Rhodes responded with four straight.

Suddenly, the Lynx held a 15-3 lead with Cunningham scoring six in the first half, Gess and Rippeto netting a hat trick each, and the entire Lynx lineup getting involved, using great transition offense and giving BSC no chance to hang.

The Panthers closed the gap to nine just before half, but Rhodes, to no surprise, countered again to begin the second half with four straight goals. Cunningham and junior Olivia Holmes each scoring two a piece.

And the route was on. The Panthers closed the gap, scoring four of the final six goals in the last 10 minutes, but Rhodes dominated their way to another win and have now won six of their eight games by 10 goals or more.

Rippeto added two ground balls and a caused turnover while Cunningham had a ground ball and caused turnover. Gess scored three to go with five ground balls while junior Ashley Doyle scored two, assisted on two more, and picked up five ground balls to go with seven draw controls.

Junior Erin Gleeson scored two while Holmes had two goals and three assists. Bennett also had two goals and an assist while sophomore Annika Hedlund had an assist in the contest.

Senior Emily Teague and Hedlund had four ground balls while junior Rachel Windmueller and senior Ashley Dill each had three. Junior Katherine Tooley had three saves in goal while freshman Lauren Lazure played the final 15 minutes, picking up two saves.

Rhodes prepares to welcome in a flurry of teams to Memphis beginning on Monday at 12 PM as they take on Muskingum at Mason Field.
