Women's Lax Continues Dominance, Shuts Out Oglethorpe in Conference Play

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Rhodes College women's lacrosse team continued their dominance in 2017, moving to 17-0 and 4-0 in conference play with a 26-0 shutout victory over Oglethorpe on the road.

For Rhodes, it is their first ever shutout of an opponent in their four year history. 

The Lynx out shot Oglethorpe 48-10 on the day as the goalie came up big with eight saves to preserve the shut out. Rhodes forced 25 Stormy Petrel turnovers and picked up 25 ground balls while also winning 22 of 28 draw controls.

Junior Kendall Cunningham scored five goals in the first half en rout to a 16-0 lead. Juniors Erin Gleeson and Maggie Rippeto added a pair of goals as 10 different Lynx scored in the period. 

Rippeto's goal before half started a string of three straight goals from the junior out of Houston going into the second half. Rippteo and Cunningham would score three in the period as the Lynx dominated from start to finish for the win.

Cunningham finished with nine points, scoring eight times and assisting on one while Rippeto had six points with five goals and an assist. Senior Lindsay Gess scored once and assisted on three for four points while junior Olivia Holmes also had four points with two goals and two assists. Glick added three points on two goals and an assist.

Three different Lynx had two points in Gleeson with two goals while sophomore Annika Hedlund and freshman Madison Rubino each had a goal and an assist.

Eight different Lynx had a point as senior Ashley Dill, junior McKenna Davis, freshman Brynly Marsh, and freshman Kaeley Bennett had one goal while junior Ashley Doyle, sophomore Elizabeth Gaudio, sophomore Lauren Boots, and freshman Claire Zagrodzky had one assist.

Defensively, Cunningham and Bennett each had two caused turnovers while Cunningham and senior Emily Teague had three ground balls. Dill won four draw controls while Doyle had three. 

Junior Katherine Tooley finished with six saves in the win while freshman Lauren Lazure had two and fellow freshman Mallika Rao played the final four minutes to keep the shut out in check.

The Lynx will continue SAA play next weekend as they return home to take on the Hendrix Warriors. Start time is scheduled for 2 PM on Saturday.
